ITINERARY – 2012 ATTUKAL PONGALA PILGRIM TOUR

Yoga Toursindia, a distinguished and internationally recognized Yoga tour company will lead an extraordinary pilgrimage to the most intriguing Temples and retreat centers of South India. Our carefully planned itinerary will begin on arrival at Cochin, Kerala on the 28th of February 2012. This incredible pilgrimage of 11 days will end, after participating in the Attukal Pongala, the world’s largest annual gathering of women, with our departure from Trivandrum, Kerala on the 9th of March 2012.

Get ready for the AttukalPongala ceremony and sightseeing around Trivandrum. It is an annual congregation of women to offer Pongala, an offering of boiled rice in earthen pot, to the goddess Devi. Attukal Pongala has become a symbol of celebration of womanhood. Pongala explores the inner feminine chemistry of the body, mind and soul, recharging the devotee with a sublime happiness and making her spiritually and mentally equipped to face the challenges of the future.

See and participate in The Pongala.

Watch hundreds of thousands of women carrying firewood and round earthen for cooking an offering to the goddess for divine blessings. Women participating in the Pongala squat on roads, by lanes, footpaths and shop fronts in a radius of several kilometers around the temple to prepare for the next day’s ritual. It is estimated that more than 3 million women participated in last year’s Pongala- the largest gathering of women in the world..
